| The
National Trust operates on a simple premise: Some of the
toughest challenges facing African-Americans and communities can
be solved by reinforcing or instilling African and
African-American values.
The
problem:
- Many
African-American communities face high crime-rates, poor health, poor
educational systems, lack of economic development, and troubled family
structures.
- Meanwhile one in
three African-American males are be incarcerated in a Federal or
State prison in their lifetime.
The
Trust solution:
The Trust
philosophy is that these incarcerated people can be transformed from
liabilities into assets to themselves, their families and their communities
through:
- Re-entry programs
that prepare inmates for re-entry into society.
- Leadership training
to help inmates learn to organize efforts to help their communities even
while they are incarcerated.

would like to get involved in our work to strengthen African-American
communities please contact The Trust.
